One of Afghanistan’s top most cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Mohammed Asif Mohseni dies of illness at his Kabul residence, confirmed his family members.
Mohseni was among the most powerful individuals in the Shia community in Afghanistan. He was born in 1935 in the Kandahar province.
Mohseni founded the Islamic Movement of Afghanistan due to which he was among the most prominent dignitaries in the Afghan resistance to Soviet occupation.
He even backed off from active participation in politics after laying the foundation of a new democratic system in Afghanistan and continued as a teacher for Jurisprudence at Khatam Al-Nabieen religious seminary that was established in 2001.
Mohseni completed his studies from Iraq’s Najaf city under the guidance of Grand Ayatollah Abul Qasim Khoei, Muhsin al-Hakim, and Abdul ala Sabzwari.
