Zalmay Khalilzad, the US special envoy for peace in Afghanistan claimed “excellent progress” during talks between US and Taliban recently in the past few days, in Doha.
Khalilzad took to Twitter to announce the progress achieved during the Doha talks and added in his tweet that similar immense progress had been attained during his visit to Kabul last week.
He cleared that in the ongoing talks with Taliban in Doha, his prime focus was on the issues that were left out in order to reach a deal with the Taliban that will also clear the ground for force withdrawal based on certain conditions.
Khalilzad also informed that he will travel to India this week to attend the meetings scheduled for construction of a stronger international consent towards support for the peace process in Afghanistan.
He said, “ My team along with Taliban representatives continue discussions on technical details as well as steps and mechanisms required for a successful implementation of the four-part agreement we’ve been working on ever since I was appointed. Agreement on these details is important.”
This comes amidst reports of Afghan government being completely ready to hold direct talks with the Taliban as revealed by the spokesperson of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
