Addressing the inauguration event of very first IT research center here in Kabul, Mohammad Fahim Hashemi, acting minister of Telecommunications and IT, claimed he was completely happy taking a positive step towards the development of the industry.
He claimed the creation of such centers and facilitating students through practical work in the IT area was very important. “In future, students would certainly obtain the advantage of this IT laboratory that is produced by MTN telecom company for research and practical learning”, he claimed.
The acting minister declared IT development was essential for financial development, making sure security and improving human resources. Hashemi asked other private companies to invest in the industry so that it would probably also help IT students get practical experience and join the job market.
In the meantime, Ebbad Reza, MTN telecom company’s head in Afghanistan, claimed, “We created these opportunities for students who would like to perform research in IT, we are now trying to give them a chance of practical education in this area,” “That is the reason we created it in the Information and Telecommunications Technology Institute (ICTI), we are going to give all needed assistance for the improvement of education in this particular area,” he claimed. Reza said the laboratory cost $80,000.
Shafi Sharifi, head of ICTI, declared that Afghanistan was placed in the lowest position in scientific innovations, however, the IT laboratory would probably assist fix the problem to a little extent.
