Cold storage facility at Hamid Karzai International Airport funded by USAID

The officials have established a cold storage facility at the Hamid Karzai International Airport. The cold storage was inaugurated in collaboration with financial support from the U.S. Agency for International development.

USAID released a statement saying that the cold storage system at the Hamid Karzai international airport will help exporters to enhance shipments of fresh fruits and vegetables to international markets that pay very high prices which will result in minimized product loss and maximized profits.

The statement also revealed that the cold storage was inaugurated at the HKIA Customs Export Warehouse with prominent guests from the Ministry of Finance, Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock and the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

HashmatullahGhafoory, Deputy Minister from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock thanked USAID for contributing towards the removal of a long-held impediment for large-scale air exports.

He also mentioned that HKIA Cold Storage will be an important model for recreation in other parts of the country.

President of Tak Dana Ltd., Zabiullah Ehsan said, we have buyers in Dubai, India, and Europe who are willing to buy fresh fruits. Our exports require a consistent cold chain, but the cold chain could not be maintained due to lack of cold storage at the airport but cold storages like these will help Afghanistan compete in various markets.”
